~ Serving Iredell County’s older adults, 60 years of age & better ~
The Iredell Council on Aging (COA) is a private, not-for-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of life and maintaining independent living for Iredell County’s older adults, 60 years of age and better.
Funding for the COA comes from several sources. The Older Americans’ Act, passed in 1965, allots federal tax dollars to each state for various services. Local funds from the county, city or town, support from United Way, and contributions from participants and business provide revenue.
There is no charge for services, but participants are encouraged to make cost-sharing contributions to the COA based on their income. The two senior centers have some fees. All contributions go back into the services or programs. Requests for services can be made by individuals, family members, doctors, home health agencies, hospitals, and extended care facilities. The Iredell Council on Aging is a United Way not-for-profit agency and is a Better Business Bureau accredited charity.
Iredell Senior Center
Iredell Senior Center is a certified “Senior Center of Excellence” as designated by the NC Div. of Aging and Adult Services. Earning this certification means that Iredell Senior Center meets the highest NC standards for senior center operations and services and activities offered to participants.
Active older adults in Iredell County are invited to participate in Iredell Senior Center’s programs, services, and activities. The Senior Center provides a place for older adults to join together for fun, recreation, and learning and to access services.
Iredell senior Center is located, with the Iredell Council on Aging, at 344 E. Front Street, in Statesville. Please telephone 704-873-8568 for additional information. Our regular operating hours are Monday – Friday, from 8 AM – 5 PM. Evening activities include: Tuesdays, for Duplicate Bridge, from 7 – 10 PM, and a monthly dance and karaoke – date varies – check special events for this month’s dance and karaoke date.
There is no annual membership fee. Some fees are charged for classes and special events. A number of activities and services are available, without fee, to Iredell County seniors, sixty years of age and better.
A monthly calendar is available in the entry of the Center. A quarterly newsletter, The Word, is mailed to participants who are registered with the Senior Center.
